Wellington Swords Club

Wellington based fencing for all ages, for fun or competition, we can offer a wide range of options.  We cater for fencers from 6 years upwards, right through to our masters and veterans, in foil and epee.

Our classes combine group and individual lessons, providing rewarding experiences for the fun fencer and opportunities to progress for those with a more competitive bent. We offer tuition to take a fencer from beginner through to international competition on the world stage.

We provide all the equipment needed for beginners to start, and source equipment for those wanting to purchase their own.
Visitors are very welcome to come and see our classes in action, and discover what our sport is all about.

WEL Fencing Club

WEL Fencing Club, formerly Hutt Valley Swords Club offers coaching in all weapons: foil, epee and sabre. We are able to cater to fencers of all ages, abilities and interest levels from wanna-be pirates (they will be tamed somewhat) to serious competitive levels. Under -9s can participate in 5-week block courses each term. We have equipment available for use by fencers while they are deciding whether to take up the sport. We welcome enquiries from everyone.

Fencing is a fun sport that involves a combination of mental, physical and temperamental challenges. Our Club is very friendly and there is a strong commitment by coaches and senior fencers to ensure that fencers understand that even a combat sport like fencing depends on an awareness of others’ reactions and a degree of “cooperation” if one is to succeed and “have the last word” in this “physical argument. Fencers in the Swords Point group are welcome to attend foil sessions at either club.

Victoria University of Wellington Swords Club

VUW has a long and proud history of fencing. The first fencing club, the Women’s Epee Club, was started in 1910. Over the next 34 years a few fencing clubs were established with the last one being VUW Swords in 1944, the last year of WWII. We have provided both the University Population and the Community with the opportunity to partake in the exciting sport of Fencing.

We are a university based club that trains fencers of all levels of ability and welcome both university students and members of the community to learn the art of fencing at social or competitive level. Our goal is to enable people to learn (from beginners to advanced) the sport of Fencing.

Beginners can use club gear and participate socially as well as in competitions, if they affiliate as competitors.
