FenCen SGM to Ratify Constitution

Notice is hereby given of a Special General Meeting to be held on the 9th of November at 1pm at the club venue in Brooklyn.

The single item on the agenda is the adoption of a new Constitution, which is required in order to be compatible with the new Fencing New Zealand Constitution, all of which is required in order to be compatible with upcoming changes to obligations under the relevant government legislation as applying to clubs and societies.

Note: The 1pm start time may potentially be delayed depending on the schedule of the Central Region Veterans Championship which is happening during that day.

Central Epee Squad – Coach Positions

Fencing Central is calling for Expressions of Interest for Coach and Assistant Coach of the new Regional Epee Squad program.

The intention of the program is to create a focused training environment for the top Central region fencers in each weapon to help further develop their competitive skills and ready them for high level national or international representation.

Squad Camps are expected to be Saturday/Sunday in Wellington (Brooklyn) taking place every two months.

Fencing Central Refereeing Course 2025

Fencing Central invites all interested members of our community to attend the free 2025 refereeing course on Sunday the 19th of October, running from 10am-5pm at Brooklyn, Wellington.

The course will be run by FIE B level referee and National Referee Michael Claydon, with a specific focus on priority weapon refereeing.

Prior refereeing experience is preferred to maximise value from this course, but is not required. The course is designed to be approachable and understandable for both developing referees and fencers who are looking to better understand fencing as well as becoming regional or national level referees. 

This course is provided free of charge by Fencing Central.

Hawkes’ Bay Fencing Camp (Sep 29-Oct 2)

The 2025 Central Fencing Camp is a 4-Day fencing camp for all three weapons, held in Havelock North from Monday September 29th through to Thursday October 2nd.

The camp is intended for fencers from Year 7+ upwards, and adult students are equally welcomed.

The Entry Form below is combined with the Central Open Competition which will take place on the immediately following weekend Saturday October 4th and Sunday October 5th.

Central U9, U11 & U13 #3 2025

Wellington Fencing Club and Fencing Central invite you to attend the Fencing Central Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 #3 on Sunday 24th August 2025.

Date: Sunday 24th August 2025.
Venue: Wellington Bowling Club Building, 2 Tanera Crescent, Brookyln, Wellington.
Entries Due: Friday 22 August. Late entries will be accepted but fencers may need to pay a late entry fee.
Eligibility: Based on age as of Jan 1st 2025, U9 aged 8 or younger that date, U11 aged 10 or younger, U13 aged 12 or younger.

Central Championships 2025

Wellington Swords Club and Fencing Central invite you to attend the 2025 Central Championships on the 16th and 17th of August.

Date: Saturday 16 August to Sunday 17 August 2025.
Venue: Rongotai College, 170 Coutts Street, Rongotai, Wellington.
Entries Due: Thursday 14 August. Late entries will be accepted but fencers may need to pay a late entry fee.
Eligibility: All competitors must be affiliated with Fencing New Zealand for 2025.

Note: Fencers are able to enter both the Épée and Sabre events. If there is an overlap in their events, organisers will attempt to facilitate fencers being able to do both. If that it is not possible due to the Épée event running long, fencers will receive a refund on their second weapon entry.

Fencing Central Gear Dispersal Application

Fencing Central is dispersing a portion of its surplus scoring equipment to support club development. To do this, Fencing Central is asking interested club’s currently affiliated with Fencing Central to show their interest in receiving some of this equipment.

Successful Clubs will receive, free of charge, one set of surplus equipment containing:

  • 1 SG Scoring box
  • 2 Favero Spools
  • 2 Groundwires

Clubs applying for this equipment must be:

  • Currently affiliated to Fencing Central, as well as Fencing New Zealand
  • Currently meeting all requirements to be an affiliated club
  • Currently present and active within the region of Fencing Central

Clubs can only apply for one set of equipment.

Applications are to be made out to the Fencing Central Secretary, Rebecca Witteman, at secretary@fencingcentral.org.nz . Applications will then be considered by the Fencing Central Committee and clubs will be informed of the allocations.

Applications must be made on or before 30th July 2025.
